Meet some of our adoptees and read their stories. If you have adopted a CARE cat or kitten, let us hear from you and send photos if available.

We have had Jack (bottom white cat) for about two years. He was our first adoption and boy has this cat family grown. We adopted Cubby (top black cat) about a year ago from CARE. Cubby is a sweet boy and he loves to play with our newly adopted kitten Whitney (tabby in the middle). It is funny to see this big 15lb cat get chased around by a little 6 lb tabby kitten, but the two are best friends and wear each other out. We have two other cats a gray cat named Chim-chimerry and a black and white tuxedo named Laverne, they were camera shy. Thanks again for letting us adopt these wonderful creatures. They add so much to our lives!! Leigh Levy |

We adopted Killian (formerly “Russell")
in November 2008 – just thought you would like an update…he is doing
well! He had some bone/nerve damage to his right front paw when we
adopted him, but it does not slow him down. You will be pleased to
know he did not have to have his leg amputated. As you can see from
the pictures, he has a little sister, Bella, whom we adopted in October
2009. They love to play and cuddle together. Leslie Phelps was his
foster mommy before he joined our family, so please feel free to pass
these pictures on to her! |

Hey Guys, We wanted to let you know that Sanford is doing extremely well. He is working hard at making friends with the rest of his "fur" family. And learning where he fits in. Just as we expected, he has become like a white shadow to our white himi, Preya. He likes to follow her wherever she goes. We bought them several "wand" toys and he worked off quite a bit of energy. Thank goodness there's four of us! He has shown that "bold" personality and is completely at ease. Taking his place in the home, as you can see with the photos attached. Thank you for all you both have done for Sanford. We loved him when we first saw him but now we love him so much more. We'll keep in touch, The Hegbergs |

Dear Friends at C.A.R.E. |
|
Handsome Russell's foster mom, Dianne, says that when Sandra and her husband came to visit Russell in her home he was very shy and ran from the room after they petted him for a while. They decided that maybe they should go home and think about it since he wasn't very friendly. Russell was one of the 7 cats abandoned in 3 cat carriers on a freezing cold night. Well, as they talked about maybe looking at another cat, Golden Boy looked in from the hallway and, when he realized he was being ignored, laid on the charm. Walking around with that jaunty walk, rubbing against her husband's leg, etc. Well, they just could not leave without him and now she says he likes to lie on her treadmill, but his favorite past-time is sitting on the window sill watching the birds and squirrels. She says he has a big appetite and she has to be careful not to feed him too much. She compliments him on his grooming skills and says he grooms himself to perfection. Sandy says he grooms her after she plays with him. |
|
Aubrey (renamed Audrey in honor of my mother's sister) has settled into her role as Princess of the household. We got her one of those curved scratching toys and she is very happy with it. Audrey spends her days following the sun around the room and curling up in it, and spends her evenings waiting for Mom's chihuahua to pass by so she can hiss at him. However, being a true princess, Audrey never really dirties her paws by actually touching the dog. She also follows Mom around during the day, eager for a scratch or two. I've enclosed a picture of Audrey sitting on the cat carrier that we purchased in Virginia for her trip home. The carrier now serves as her majesty's royal throne. Take care, Ruth |

Hi CARE! I've attached some pictures of Ruby and
Denny, who we adopted as Daisy and Jax back in 2008. They are happy,
rested, and well-fed. Their lives usually consist of what you see
in "Sleeping Kitties 2," attached. They are absolute sweethearts and
have added so much to our lives. Thanks again! |
|
|
|
Their new mom Marcia reports that they have settled in very nicely. |
|
"Freckles is doing well. She loves
to play and even fetches her toys when she wants Mike and I to play
with her. She enjoys running around and finds everything entertaining.
We are absolutely enjoying her. Her favorite toy is a wand with fuzzy
material hanging from it and feathers attached to the end. She carries
it all over walking with her head held high." |
|
We recently "celebrated" seven years
with our Daisy, a sweet cat we got from your wonderful organization. |

Hello All-- Just a note to catch you
up on the life of Peyton. He has been renamed Klaus, and is the friendliest
cat I have ever seen--he loves to chat about everything in life! He
lives with his sister, a dog named Chloe, and he couldn't love her
more! Chloe and Klaus recently moved from the city to the country,
and now have another cat brother and sister, Bob and 3:30, respectively.
Since the move, Klaus has really discovered that he is, indeed, a
cat and not a dog. From simple lessons in how to groom himself, to
more complex lessons on respecting the other animals' boundaries,
Klaus has found his way in his furry little world! Thanks again! Jaime,
Travis, and Klaus (and Chloe and Bob and 3:30) |

Hi, I adopted Thor (formerly Tom Yum)
in May and I just wanted to share what he has been up to. |
|
|
"The kittens are doing great! Skimble
(Justin) is still laid back, but is getting plenty of excercise during
the day with the kids. At night he really lights up! Him and Rumpleteazer
(Jamie) chase each other and roll around on the floor for hours. They
are both great with the kids. Rumpleteazer has become my little sweetheart.
She will let me hold her as long as I want now, meets me at the door
when I come home and sits in the window sill watching me when I leave
for work. Maggie has really bonded with Skimble. They are sweethearts
indeed! He is a bathtub cat. If the bathroom doors are ever left open,
he will crawl into the bathtub and lay down. I've attached some pictures.
Thanks for checking on them!" |

Over two years ago CARE volunteer Helen McIver
went to the Henrico Pound to pick up a very sick, pregnant mom cat
who was in upper respiratory distress. On the way to the vet clinic,
a little fella who could not wait was born in Helen's car (thus named
McIver). Helen was completely overwhelmed by this turn of events so
she called fellow CARE volunteer Dianne Inman on the way to the clinic.
Dianne met her there and Dr. Z turned mom and baby over to her with
medicine to help mom breathe. Safely in Dianne's home and even though
she was so ill, she delivered 4 kittens. Unfortunately, 2 died after
several days, but the mom, whom Dianne named April, lived. One female
kitten was a large beautiful gray with white markings and Dianne named
her Beauty. April was very, very protective of her babies and covered
them like a hen over her chicks. When it was time for them to be adopted,
Ann Sensabaugh saw their pictures, met them, and fell in love. When
her babies left, April became depressed, almost stopped eating and
lost her fur. With meds and a lot of love, she overcame her grief
and Dianne's guilt over her grief made it impossible to let her go.
April is now Dianne's constant companion and helps her raise the kittens
that she fosters who do not have a mom. Ann has sent these photos
of her babies as kittens and at their second birthday opening their
gifts. This was indeed a perfect adoption. They are now named Sport
and Sissy. |

Hi Chris, Hope all has been well with you. We were
happy to see Jolie was adopted. Kaylee worries about Christopher finding
his forever home. Zoey is doing great. She is the best cat - she doesn't
get into things (like most kittens would) - she lets the kids do anything
with her (as you can see from the picture I attached) - she had picked
out an old chair in the office (by the window of course) and made
it hers - she even doesn't claw my new furniture. We love her very
much. Right now she is wrapped up in a baby blanket and is being carried
around in a baby carrier. Thank you again for rescuing her!!!! |
|

Cooper! He looks so big in these pics;
he is about double in size since we got him. He is presently running
laps in the bathtub...his new favorite activity. Go figure! ha! Whatever
makes him happy! LOL! Thanks for everything, |

I recently adopted Maximilian (or Max) for my Grandfather
and since he doesn't have a computer, I wanted to update you on Max's
life. My grandfather is what you would call "obsessed" with Max. He
bases the majority of his day around Max's desired schedule, refusing
to get up unless Max decides lap time is over. My grandfather's 20
year old cat passed away about 9 months ago, leaving my grandfather
broken hearted and lonely, but Max has provided him with a companion.
I saw my grandfather and Max this past weekend, and I think Max has
also found a forever home he is happy with. When he is not curled
up on a lap, he follows my grandfather around from room to room. Thank
you so much for all of your help in finding the perfect mate for my
grandfather - your foster care families went out of their way find
a cat whose personality matched what we needed! |

Jake and Willie... what a mess! They are such a great pair. Jake is
so quiet and reserved. He loves to sit on the laps of anyone who visits,
but HATES to be held. He will snuggle for hours, but all on his terms.
He is gorgeous- like a small leopard- shiny and regal looking. Willie...
well , the white whisker fell out months ago, but we realized that
he and Jake are NOTHING alike, so who needs it! Willie is a.k.a. "Forrest
Gump" because if he is goin anywhere... he... is... runnin.... !!!
We can carry him around like a sack of potatoes. He loves to snuggle
as close to you as possible (and in any of your nooks and crannies
;-) We also call him bulldozer, because he head bumps all the time.
He purrs so easily and is so loving. He is cute, wide eyed and a little
smaller than Jake, and his fangs show all the time. Hope you enjoy
the pics! |

Connie, |

Last night, Meesy jumped up between me and Anna, curled up in Anna's
lap and closed his eyes, purring like crazy. It was a really touching
scene, and Anna was clearly delighted with such a rewarding moment.

This is Mitten, now Gracie, with our boxer. They get along wonderfully.
It's very amusing to watch our two-pound kitten chase after our 70-pound
dog. |

Amanda was once a feral cat until adopted by her former foster dad.
She is becoming ever more comfortable with people and even tolerates
the 3 year old nephew. She loves her opossum toy, a Christmas gift
from another CARE foster parent, Vittoria. |
|
|
We
wanted to check in and provide an update on our adopted white cat
"Jack" after one year. Sister Katherine was his foster mom and she
did a wonderful job. Jack has never gotten used to our Lhasa Apso,
so we adopted another cat for him to bond with, that is her in the
picture next to him. We love to spoil Jack and for every moment of
him being spoiled he pays us back double with his sweet disposition
and charm. Thank you for finding Jack and letting us adopt him. |

We
have received an update on Mr. Bingley, formerly Lionel, from his
loving adopter Maureen. |

Hi Helen, Want to let you know how much we love Sunshine (previously named Cheryl). She is such a sweet little kitty and is very happy in her new home. We already had one kitty, Roo, who we adopted in November 2008. It took no time at all for Sunshine to fit right in with Roo and our two dogs, Emmely and Baxter. Everyone gets along great. I'm attaching a picture of Sunshine (L) and Roo (R). Thank you! - Elaine |

Hi there...I wanted to give you an update on Flo/Flora/Florida, formerly Ginger, who was adopted 2/14/09. She is doing great...has moved into our home, and into our hearts! Shortly after she was adopted, we were trying to come up with a new name..... my Mom looked at her face and said: she has the state of FLORIDA on her face, hence the name Flo! She even has her own room, which she lounges in daily, enjoying the sun and bird watching...the FLORIDA ROOM!!! (What else would you call it!) She is the queen of the house! We absolutely Love her, and are so blessed that Care rescued her from a cold life outside. We also appreciate Janet for all the care and information she provided to us prior to our adoption. Thanks so much!!!! Marylee |

I’ve been meaning to write sooner, but
it has been very busy here as we get into tax season. I just wanted
to let you know that Elf is doing very well. She spent the first month
or so hiding under things, but recently she’s been getting braver
every day. Elf has decided that she loves one of my other CARE cats
very much and follows her around wherever she goes. You were right,
she does eat a lot, but she doesn’t gain any weight, I wish my metabolism
was that good! I have attached some pictures of Elf, but she is hard
to photograph as she doesn’t sit still for long. I hope all is well
with you, |
|

I just wanted let you all know that Demi
is doing just fine. She has adjusted very well. She sleeps in the
bed with us, gets her hair brushed, gets treats and fancy feast wet
food. We love Demi very much and we are very grateful for her. I attach
a picture of her one morning after we woke up. |

George is at home in Bumpas with a family
that adores him. They have a young son who was the one that picked
George at the adoption stand. This family specified a female fluffy
cat and yet it seems George "hugged" the young boy and that was that.
The mom said she put the baby down on the mat and when she returned,
George was cuddled up to him asleep. As you can see from the photos,
he has settled in forever. George's new mom writes, |
|
|
Now this is one contented cat. The Dopp family adopted Bananas (now appropriately named Sunny) in December and report that this little golden girl has settled into her new home and has truly become a member of the family. |

Attached is a photograph of my 3 CARE
kitties....the tuxedo kitty with the white nose is Simeon (formerly
Zorro) adopted in 2005; the other 2 kitties were adopted in Nov 2008
from foster Mom Lisa: the tuxedo kitty with the black nose is Tommy
(formerly Rowdy) and the tabby is Muffy (formerly Pumpkin). It took
the little ones and Simeon about 12 hours to adjust after I brought
them home. Simeon adores his little brother and little sister (as
you can tell in this photo). The second photo is SO cute of Tommy
in his Spiderman chair the night he came home from being neutered.
The 3rd photo is of Tommy and Muffy together in their favorite chair.
Everyone enjoys lots of running, jumping, toy-grabbing, watching TV,
and lap time in Mommy's lap. It is a joy to be greeted each morning
when I wake up with these 3 adorable faces and especially comforting
to be greeted each night after work. I am so thankful for the CARE
foster program and Lisa for these special kitties. |

L'il Bear was a very special CARE kitten. Rescued by 3 volunteers from a storm drain and the only surviving kitten in the litter, she grew from a tiny kitten into a beautiful short hair Tortie with a sweet disposition. Bottle raised, Bear (named because she looked like a Bear Cub when tiny), was the typical Princess Kitty. Gus and Elise Hemmer adopted her just before Christmas and wanted a companion for their little girl, Josie. As you can see from this photo, they definitely bonded as only kids and kittens can. Bear loves to ride in the little doll basket and sleeps in it when Josie is otherwise occupied. This little girl complained she was lonely in her bedroom, but that was before her best friend, Lil Bear, became her roomie. This story shows that children can be responsible and loving pet owners when parents supervise and teach them how to take care of their pet friends. This is one very lucky little CARE kitten. |

|
Kageneko (Japanese for Shadow Cat, pronounced 'kay-gay-nee-ko', formerly Pypurr) is quite content in his new home. He has fallen in love with Tabitha (our Maine Coon) and bonded closely with another new addition, Diablo. He spends his days curled up on the cat perch in the sun, and his evenings curled up on on the couch with his hoomins watching TV. He plays hard and cuddles even harder. If there is an empty lap, he will fill it. He has come a long way from the frightened feral cat he once was and we are so happy to have him! Many thanks to CARE for introducing him to us! |
|

I wanted to thank CARE and Janet for fostering
Tegan (formerly Lizzie) so I could adopt her! In August 2008 I went
to the Short Pump Petsmart looking for an orange tabby kitten but
this cat had other plans and picked me. She is quiet and laid back,
and likes to be picked up and sit on my shoulder. She also likes to
jump for toys and even up to the top of the refrigerator. She is very
friendly and likes new people. I am very glad that I was able to find
her! I have attached a picture, but she has gotten a little bigger
since it was taken. Thank you again! |

Hello! This is a much-overdue note to
share an update on our cats Charlie and Chloe (formerly Casey), whom
we adopted from C.A.R.E. at the Short Pump Petsmart back on 9/1/07.
Charlie & Chloe are full-grown now, happy & healthy & enjoying their
new home. They love to sit on the windowsills and watch all of the
birds and squirrels in our yard. Charlie is a “mama’s boy” and a real
“lap cat”, who is always getting into everything. Chloe is a “daddy’s
girl” who likes to do her own thing, and let you know when she needs
your services. They are both so much fun to have around, with their
completely different personalities! Attached are two photos—the first
is from shortly after we brought them home in September 2007, and
the second is a more recent photo showing them enjoying their favorite
activity, looking out the window. Thanks to everyone at C.A.R.E. for
all that you do! |

Ashley Whitlock had a big smile when Noel's foster mom, Dianne, opened the door. Michelle Whitlock, Ashley's mother, had brought her to adopt her first kitten. Ashley's aunt rescued a small kitten from a car's engine and Ashley has been kittensitting to learn all about kitten care. She wanted one of her own and has worked hard to help mom with extra chores, improve her school grades and do all she could do to prove she is responsible. Mom had told her they were going to do errands until they arrived at Noel's foster home. Noel had been rescued from a shed with her feral mom and five siblings. She and Ashley bonded immediately, and we know this kitten will have a wonderful life loved by this family. |

Sugar was adopted in October, 2007. This wonderful Christmas photo was submitted by her mom, Gail Smith. |

Max (aka George) asked me to let you guys
know that he's very happy in his forever home. Max moved in with us
in March of 2007. It took him like an hour to make himself at home.
He's a great guy! We all love him very much and want to thank C.A.R.E
and especially Helen (his foster mom) for allowing us to adopt him.
Max has 2 adopted brothers, Chesdin and Jake, they are sheltie-mixes,
and he gets along well with both of them. Max's favorite place is
in my lap, however, in a pinch he likes laying under the Christmas
Tree. Merry Christmas to everyone. |

Hello, With the upcoming holidays I felt
that I wanted to take the time out to tell you how appreciated you
are by the members of this family. We are celebrating our first Christmas
with Moses and couldn't be happier. We adopted Moses in 2/08 and as
we approach our year anniversary with him as part of our family I
just wanted to send a note to let you know he is doing well and is
well loved. Moses is my son's first pet and it has been love at first
sight since that day we saw his face peering out of the carrier. Moses
had not even had a chance to be named yet and was actually on his
way to stay with his foster home to see how he did but my son spotted
him in the carrier and knew that was "his kittie." It definitely was
one of the best decisions we made! Moses has been one of the best
things to happen to our little family! |

There is a cat somewhere under that big dog head. The kitty is Spike, formerly Brock, and he enjoys a good cuddle with his big brother Chopper in his new home. Spike was the runt of his litter, but has plumped up very nicely. He loves belly rubs and obviously his best doggy friend too. |
|
|
This is Andrea's Khaki, a CARE alumna. Khaki is the love of Andrea's life. She also fetches a feather wand and returns it time after time. |
|
|
Mr. Bingley, a very gentle natured and obviously very patient CARE alum prepares to celebrate Halloween 2008. He wishes all his old CARE friends well, especially his foster parents Vittoria and Blue. |
|
|
Here is a picture of "BUD" (formerly Jimmie) whom we adopted in October from the Short Pump Pet Smart. He is enjoying his new home in Hanover County with his mom and dad (Susan and Bruce). Bruce built him a deluxe carpeted window cat perch to keep track of the birds in the outside yard. He has also found the joys of catnip mice!! |
|
|
Miss Helen, I’m sorry I haven’t written sooner but every time I thought of it I didn’t have a picture of the boys. They are so wonderful and so much fun! Max is the outgoing one and always into mischief. He loves to come to the bedroom when you are lying on the bed watching TV. He loves to be petted and have his belly rubbed. Mitch has taken to Larry- he always wants Larry to pet him. The thing is when you go into the bathroom he has to come in and be petted. When they first came they hid in the laundry room. Then they started coming out and boy now they will run through the house while we are at work and you’ll find rugs all over the place. They use them as launching pads. Thank you for letting us take them. They have been so much fun! Sandi, Larry and Anna |

Carter has asked us to email you some pictures of him and his new
home. The second he got home he took over. He is extremely comfortable
in his new home with his new brother and sister. Now if he can just
win them over not from a lack of trying though. We are amazed at how
much he thinks hes a dog. He loves to play fetch with his toy mouse
and comes (most of the time) when called. He has his own room(s) when
he needs some peace and quiet but really loves to sleep in bed with
us, snuggled up. Thank you so much for taking care of him! |

Matthew and Jennie Rainbolt adopted Jessie, a nine week old adorable male tabby. Matthew has just returned from the Navy and plans to be home with their new family member for a week or two. Jennie has never had a pet other than a fish and she is learning the joys of a furry, purring, active kitten and may never return to fish again. She is a 5th grade teacher and her students are very interested in her new furrbaby. They said it didn't take Jessie long to decide that he accepted his new family and home. |

Tiger has been quite a character! Although he was a bit uneasy in
our home at first, he now loves it! He and Kitty play all the time;
wrestling and chasing one another. Kitty loves to groom Tiger and
he highly enjoys that. Tiger likes WATER! After we take showers, he
jumps in the tub, walks through the left over water and jumps out
with water ALL OVER HIM! He's so funny. He plays with his toys at
all hours of the night. The only misconception about him was that
at Petsmart he loved to be picked up... once we brought him home that
was over with. He'll jump on us when he wants, but if you try to pick
him up he'll freak out. So we don't. But he is the biggest snuggler.
At night he cuddles with us and goes to sleep in between us. We are
so happy we got him! I bet Kitty would say thank you if she could.
She loves having a buddy to play with. She takes care of him and he
loves that. Enjoy the pictures we have attached. I need to make a
video of them playing! You might see them on America's Funniest Videos
one day! Thank you all for everything. |

Dear CARE and Carolyn, |

|
Hey there! We are just so happy to have adopted Kiera (renamed Kitty) from you all. We love her to pieces; we could not have gotten a better cat. She adjusted fast to her new life with us and seems to be enjoying every minute. She is very sweet and we cannot imagine life without her. We have attached a few pictures of her. She's too cute and is quite a character! Thank you so much for everything and we will definitely keep you updated on how she is doing. Sincerely, The Christmas' |

Attached is a photo of "Quincy" aka Thomas, who we adopted in June. He is sweet, loving, fun and so cute!! Quincy and our other cat, Murphy, are getting along OK and we expect they will eventually be good buddies. Quincy has adapted well and has already taken over the house. He loves people and his new life. He is a gem and has brought much pleasure to us. Thanks! Sharon & Ron |

Hi Allison! I wanted to let you know that Jax and Daisy (who have been renamed Denny and Ruby) are settling in with us and are doing great. Ruby hid under furniture for a few days, but since then she's come out of her shell and become the love bug she naturally is. Denny follows us around everywhere, and likes to be involved in whatever we're doing. Thanks so much for letting us bring them into our family! |

We live for happy endings at CARE and this short story ended perfectly when Eric Cosley came to a CARE foster home to visit a kitten he saw on the care-cats.org website. Another little kitten, a yellow long-haired handsome fella named BobbieKat, decided this was his opportunity to get a new family. He commanded attention by wrestling other kittens and sauntering around like a WWF champion. With all that personality and cuteness, Eric didn't stand a chance. He adopted BobbieKat and took him to surprise Melinda, his girlfriend who wanted a kitten of her own. Eric has an adopted rescue cat, age two named Big Boy. |

To all our friends at CARE and our Foster Mom, Janet. Just fur you....MEEE-OOW!!!!!!
We celebrated our 2nd birthday about a month ago and wanted to let
you know that we are still "feline" fine. There have been no cat--astrophies!
We love our family and see our sister, Malakai - who lives in Vienna,
VA - quite often. She didn't get to our "purr-ty" - which was pretty
tiring - but we sent her our picture (attached) and purred to her
over the phone. Thanks, again, for finding us these purr-fect families
and homes. They say "Hi!" (that's "people talk" for mee-oow). |

Hello
Sandy, Just wanted to say hi and let you know that Oliver who is now
renamed Harley is just the most lovely boy that I could ever want.
He is enjoying being spoiled rotten in my apartment with a lot of
love. He enjoys sitting in the sunshine or relaxing with me on my
patio. The vet here at Shady Grove is also totally in love with him
( Dr. Garland). I am so happy he is part of my family. |
|

Enclosed is a photo of Sugar. We adopted her in Oct. '07 thru CARE. She has provided us with hours of good times watching her antics! Thanks for your help finding a kitty for our family. Gail Smith |

Just wanted to let you know that Melba (Nina) and Hazel (Lillie) are doing great. Lillie was immediately friendly and was ready to take over the house. Nina hid under the bed for 2 days, then finally came out to visit, but skittered away at the slightest motion. She is now very friendly and talkative, and FINALLY likes to be petted. Lillie is the leader, and makes sure Nina is behaving. Anyway, they are doing great. John and Meredyth |

Betty Edmonds and her husband adopted Autumn, a beautiful calico and have called to let her foster mom, Dianne, know that she has settled into their home with 2 dogs, Princess, a cocker spaniel, and a lab named Trouble. They have another calico female, Little Callie, also adopted from CARE. Autumn, now Big Callie, follows Betty around like a dog and has a wonderful personality. When Betty and her daughter visited Autumn at the adoption center, this sweet calico was not happy at being there; she bit Betty and scratched her daughter. Undaunted, Betty visited her again, saw through the angry display, and decided to take her home. As they say, the rest is history. This proves that the love and security a cat or kitten finds in a good home can make a big difference in their personality and actions. Thank you Betty and family for the love and care you give to all your furry family members. The Edmonds even built their home in Goochland to be cat friendly. They had extra wide window sills constructed so the cats would have a comfortable place to sit and watch nature outside. |

Tameka Reaves saw Dolly Grace on our CARE adoption page on the website. They met and at Dolly's foster home and it was mutual love at first sight. Tameka and her husband have a new home that has room for their miniture pinscher and Dolly Grace. They both grew up with cats and Dolly Grace is a very lucky to have this wonderful home. |

We
wanted to update you on Josie. We adopted Mariah, who we now call
Josie, last April, 2007. Mariah and Miranda had been rescued by CARE
from a kill shelter. Josie is the one that ended up having her tail
amputated. We have had her for almost a year now. Josie was extremely
shy and lived under our bed for about 2 weeks. It took 2 1/2 months
for her to come downstairs. Although she still gets a little skittish
from time to time she has settled in wonderfully. She loves to hop
up on the table when we first get home so she can stretch out and
get her tummy rubbed. She really isn't a lap kitty, but would rather
prefer to lay beside us- making sure we turn just the right way so
she can settle in. She enjoys sleeping curled up on the bed each night.
And her favorite thing is running and playing with her toy mice. When
she runs she sounds like an entire herd of cats! She enjoys kisses
as well - especially if she is very sleepy. She has come a long way
in the past year. We know next year there will be even more of a difference.
She really does crave love and attention - and she is getting it!!!
Thank you for rescuing her! |

This is Kiss Kiss formerly known as Edmund.
We adopted him from the Short Pump Petsmart about 8 months ago and
he's doing very well. This is one of his favorite places, the bathroom
sink. He spends his days playing non stop, perching in the windows
around the house and playing with his sister Lady the chihuahua. He's
always in a good mood and alot of fun. Were happy to have him and
can't imagine life now without him. From the moment we saw him we
knew he was very special. Thanks C.A.R.E. |

Hi
CARE friends! It's me Billy Bob and I have wonderful news that I would
like to share!
I'm starting to think he has an addiction though. Mom moved them to
the top of the fridge but he just had to have the magnets!!! I
don't play too much with my brother Milo....cause....well..this is
all he does.... SLEEP
SLEEP SLEEP!......My brother Osiris is the same way! But he has found
a weird way to take a nap.... At
least my sister Hemingway plays with me. I just love her! My
brother Buster is a bit of a camera hog, but as you can see mom loves
to take pictures of us.. Well
friends... I think I am going to follow in the paws of my lazy siblings
and take a nap...

Thanks again for helping me find a home and for helping all my other cat friends find good homes! |

Hi! I adopted a very sweet kitten named
Sadie (previously Velvet) from C.A.R.E in October, and I thought that
I would write to let ya'll that she is doing great! She is growing
so much, partly because she is such a big eater! She loves Law & Order
SVU (that is what she is watching in one of the pictures that I sent),
playing in fresh-from-the-dryer laundry, anything with feathers, and
her frequent encounters with the cat that lives in the mirror. The
picture of her taken in front of the TV was taken the day that I got
her, the close up was taken after I had her for one month, and the
one on the ironing board (her favorite spot for watching me when I
am cleaning or working around the house) was taken in January. I will
be sending more soon! She is so affectionate; she loves to be held
and has a purr so strong that it definitely does not fit her petite
frame! Thank you, CARE, for helping me to find such a special addition
to my home! |

Ron Jennings and his children adopted our beautiful Francesca. Ron grew up with cats and because of travel in his career has not been able to have pets for the past few years. He now works closer to home and started looking for the perfect feline. Francesca with her sweet personality and beauty was just what he needed. His children agree and they immediately became friends. Francesca's foster mom, Dianne, said it was really hard to part with this special houseguest. |

Hi Helen, Just a quick note to let you know Winston (aka Jake) and
Mike are doing great!! I couldn't be happier with how well and how
quickly they have adjusted to their new home and have accepted us
as their new family. I followed your advice to keep them in one room
for a week. Now we are at the point where they have full run of the
house and boy are they having a blast! !! I bought one of those cat
towers plus lots of toys so they have tons to play with and we have
a large house so they have plenty of room to run around and chase
each other. They are so funny to watch! I'm really glad we adopted
both of them. For one it made the transition less scary and secondly
they have one another for companionship. They truly have bonded ...
you rarely see one cat without the other not far behind. Separately,
Mikey has adopted me I think. He follows me all over the house like
a puppy. He sits on my desk while I try to work or else he climbs
up into a recliner I have in my office and sleeps there while I work.
At night he sleeps at the foot of my bed along with my dog Buddy or
else up on the pillow between me and Chad. Winston has adopted my
mom and Ryan. He takes turns sleeping in their rooms although he seems
to really like Ryan. Sometimes both cats sleep with Ryan. But most
importantly, the cats and dogs are getting along fine. |

The Duran family, Julia, Amy 13, Timmy 9, and Christina 7, came to pick out a kitten for Christina, age 7. They played with all the kittens and picked a handsome orange and white male named Rhylee. Almost 4 months old, Rhylee was long and lean with a very long tail and great personality. The first night in his new home, Rhylee slept at Julia's head and settled in. They report that Rhylee crawls all over everything and rubs noses with Buddy Boy the dog. He is very talkative and refuses to be left behind anywhere. He has a huge appetite and wants a taste of everything the family eats. They report that he continues to be as silly as he was as a kitten and is quite a jokester. The Durans have two other CARE alumni, Misty and Savannah, in their home, and this beautiful family has opened their hearts to one more. |

We adopted "Sarah" and "Petey" from Janet almost 2 weeks ago. We've renamed them "Raja" (Sarah) and "Rivah" (Petey). They're having a great time getting into stuff at our house. It only took them about a day to get adjusted to their new surroundings. Thought you might like a few photos! Here you go... Steve |

As spirited as he is handsome, Charlie is a big part of his adoptive
household. |

Oliver and Daisy were adopted from CARE as kittens by Debbie and Rich
Harrison, with whom they are much loved and spoiled. |

Word has it that her mom Lorraine is smitten with Mitzie (formerly
Mittens) and with a face like this one, who could blame her? |

The black cat in the picture with Ernie is Ariel- she came from the Charlottesville SPCA. She took to Ernie immediately when I brought him home. She grooms him, plays with him, sleeps with him. I believe that she thinks he is her kitten. She was pregnant when she was dropped off at the shelter and her kittens were aborted. Needless to say, Ernie loves all the attention. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas! |

We adopted Jesse (aka Fluff) for my grandfather on 11/24/07. Jesse
is a quiet, shy, 2 y.o. boy who likes a calm environment. He still
prefers to spend most of the day tucked safely underneath the sunroom
couch... but, when afternoon approaches, Jesse likes to curl up in
"Daddy Dan's" lap. They are perfect for each other... Jesse needed
a quiet, safe home and Daddy Dan needed Jesse's companionship. Both
have blossomed in each other's company!! |

This
is former CARE cat Coalie, i.e. Colleen. She is about 9 years old
now and has a very blessed life. She does NOT like the flower arrangements
to be symetical so she rearranges them.........for free. Helen McIver

MAURICIO (Maury--we call him Mr. Mo) has found a home. I adopted Maury
at Short Pump PetSmart last Sat. (11/10/07). He's a sweetheart and
is settling into his new home nicely. We're gradually introducing
him to our 13 yr. old Daisy. He's a rag doll...when you pick him up,
he sinks into your arms and loves to have his tummy rubbed. His quiet,
laid back personality is a perfect fit for us. Thank you, Jane, for
being a good foster mom to him until we met him. |

Just wanted to update you about my little calico beauty, adopted on
October 6th. After trying out many names, she has decided to respond
best to Molly, and is frequently "Molly-Doll", you can guess why.
She's settled in with my two other cats and made herself at home!
Thanks for this beautiful kitten, Sharen |

Hi, My name is Mark Sands and my wife and I adopted Emma ( please

Hi, ,just wanted to give you an update on Miss Jenny-Grace and send
along a couple of pictures. We've finally moved into our new home
and it's great. There are wonderful large windows with a windowseat
in the living area. It looks out on a deck that I've planted pansies
in the backyard, hung wind chimes, a birdbath and lots of bird feeders
along with a couple of birdhouses. We're ready for a busy winter of
"sight seeing" with our winged neighbors! She has a favorite toy that
you see in one of the pictures. When I went to a business conference
in Nashville they passed out earplugs for use at a concert. I brought
them home to her (they were attached to one another with a string)
and she loved them! Of course they finally wore out so I went to Walmart
and got a package and we made our own. She brings it to me (just in
case I'm not tuned in to her play schedule!) when she's ready to play!
What fun, I can hardly keep up with her! She gets more comfortable
with being close (still not in my lap - I've pretty much given up
on that). But that's okay. She's the best! Take care, and keep up
the good work! Patty and Jenny-Grace |

This is from Amy, who adopted Owen. "My name is Owen, and I wanted to send CARE a note to thank them for giving my kitty family a better life. We were living in the woods and these caring people fed us for awhile until we were able to be trapped. My mom (who is feral) has been spayed and has gone to her forever home in Goochland with lots of land, living a safe life with a steady meal and never having to have kittens again. I had an upper respiratory infection and an umbilical hernia when I was trapped, but with medical treatment I'm in mint condition. My siblings and I have been adopted to great families. I was such a handsome kitty that I won the heart of my foster mom and she decided to keep me. I joined another CARE brother cat, we are great buddies, and a sister, who is also a rescue and is still trying to get used to my high energy ways...I wanted to send some pics of how handsome I am now, I'm orange and white...I was 3 months old when I was rescued, and I'm now about 6 months old. Thank you to CARE for all of their hard work and dedication to end homelessness and suffering of undeserving cats. |
