Emaline (Formerly Emily)

Hello, I was just writing to thank you. This past March I adopted a tabby named Emily from your Pet-Smart location. I have since made a slight change in her name to Emaline but she is still the same playful cat. I live by myself but she has become my new roommate. I always look forward to seeing her when I come home. I've attached a few pictures of her as well. And I also wanted to thank you all for the wonderful work you're doing of finding great pets loving homes. And only wish the best. -Rachel Gropper

Jack (R) and Molly

Jack's adoptive mom, Ashley, had reservations about how well "mean" older sister Molly would get along with Jack, the new member of the family. After a period of adjustment, this photo evidences that they are doing just fine together. Thank you Ashley for taking Jack to your heart.

Miranda

MIRANDA ..HAS FIT IN LIKE SHE HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN HER NEW HOME....VERY GENTLE....EATING THE NEW CAT FOOD....AND LOVES TO WATCH THE BIRD FEEDER THRU THE PATIO WINDOW.... SHE RUNS THRU THE HOUSE AND PLAYS WITH NEW TOYS I BOUGHT.....IF I SET DOWN..SHE IS IN MY LAP..LOVES TO HUGG.

Ernie (formerly Buff)

Lady Caroline (formerly Minerva)

September 5, 2007
Bill and I met you when we adopted "Lady" (formerly known as "Minerva") on June 9 from PetsMart. She is the most beautiful female cat we've ever seen. She is every bit her name. Beaufort (15) and Roo (7) love her and they all play and have a great time. We love watching them. She has had her claws trimmed twice and is so dainty and feminine. Lady Caroline is her formal name, but she goes by "Lady." Lady is the first female pet we have had ... and she is so different from her male counterparts! Lady brings us great Joy. I think she likes living with us ... she loves to get under a sheet and tunnel. We keep a spare one on a made bed so we can play "hide and seek" with her. I tell her I love her many times each day. She is sleek and slender but is filling out and a little bit heavier now ... Definitely a good "figure." Please give our gratitude to her foster Mom for her wonderful care of Lady while she was expecting her litter and for taking such good care of all 5 of them when the kittens came. She has been through so much in her young life ... She is now 12 and one-half months old. Thank you and your team for all you do to help God's precious animals.

Dino- "My work here is done."

Dino was adopted from CARE about 6 years ago. During the night he decided that the clothes for his mom's grandchild were not packed to his satisfaction. He was heard to say, "Now that's better!"

Belle

"Beautiful Girl"

Here are CARE's parking lot girls. Both were semi-feral when they were rescued, Belle from a Taco Bell lot and Beautiful Girl from Westminster Canterbury's. With countless hours of patience and more love than you would think possible, they have both settled into their new home. They are loving girls now and very spoiled, and it is all due to the amazing efforts of their mom, Patti.

Stripes (formerly Lionheart) and Midnight

Stripes

Here are the pictures of Midnight and Stripes(Lionheart). We got her from you in May of 2005, my son kept her name that you had given to her and him in August 2007. He is fitting in very well. His foster mom Ashley must have really worked with him. He is so sweet. I call him a cuddle bug. He likes to lay on my chest and wrap around my neck to sleep. He loves to be held and doesn't like to be in a room by himself. He really likes my 6 year old son, you have to be very tolerant to deal with a young child. Stripes follows him around. Midnight loves to lay in the chair next to my son (Hunter) as well. Even though she is a cat she still has a shoe fetish. Every time you take off shoes she has to lay and sniff all over them. The one picture is Hunter, Midnight and Stripes all laying in the chair. Stripes has his paws touching Midnight. Major progress for only being here a couple of days. Thank you again for both of these cats. They are very sweet.
Lisa, Hunter and Virgil Meador

Miles and Dexter

In September 2006, we went in to PetSmart to look for a black kitten. We settled on one, Miles, (formerly Burke) and had the adoption set up. Upon arriving and visiting with him we fell in love instantly. After all the paper work was completed we were getting ready to leave when Miles' cage mate, a kitten named Dexter, (formerly Hopeful) stood up against the cage and started meowing. As soon as we stepped out of the store we knew that we had to get him too. We called the volunteer back. However she had already left, so we set up an appointment to go back and get him the following Monday. Today Miles and Dexter are doing wonderful in their new home and have even made a new puppy friend. They are getting big so quickly. Its hard to believe that it has almost been a year since we got them. Miles loves to crawl underneath the blanket at night and curl up next to you, while Dexter lays at your feet. I thought you guys at CARE might like to know how they have turned out. Thank you so much for two wonderful kittens. Paula and Kyle

Jake

Jake in his new home- his first visit to the enclosed patio. Life is good for this little guy who was rescued from a kill shelter.

Lucy

Chloe

"I love them with all of my heart and soul, I really do. Chloe, the one I adopted from you (Helen), is my little shadow...she loves to be brushed, get in bed with me...she is just a doll! Both of my torties are stunning...and they are the nicest cats, I don't know why torties get such a bad rap!"
Chloe was adopted from foster mom Helen and Lucy from Penny and Andrea. They are obviously much loved by their human mom, Linden.

William

Toby

Toby and William

Just wanted to let you know that William and Toby have settled in nicely and are doing very well. William is voicing his opinions loudly, sleeping on his back iwth his feet in the air and continuing to gnaw holes in the bottom of any cat food bag that he can get to. He's a very personable and affectionate fellow. Whether on his back or in a more conventional position, he always looks so relaxed when he sleeps. He enjoys playing with cat's tails, including his own, and playing with the water stream in the water fountain. He also greatly appreciates having his face groomed and encourages it by licking fingers. Toby's quite the inquisitive fellow and has explored every cabinet and climbed most of the artificial mountains in the house. He doesn't seek out affection quite as often as William, but when he does he makes the most of it. He loves to be stroked and often requests it in the middle of the night. He's also a top-notch chow hound and puts away his dinner in a fraction of the time it takes the other cats, leaving him plenty of time to nose into the others' dishes. As I hoped, the two have become very good romping buddies, which is a good thing since the other cats in the house are generally past their roughhousing days. Their wrestling matches and hide-and-seek-and-pounce games are great fun to watch. The 6-foot cat tree in the living room is very popular, and Toby is frequently in the top spot. He and William have shared it on occasion, but both have grown in the few weeks I've had them, so they may run out of room soon.
Thanks so much for rescuing and caring for these fine fellows!
Dave Fox

Frank and Oscar
(Formerly Rennie and Andy)

Hi Dianne, I am sorry it has taken so long to get back in touch with you, life really gets hectic at times. Rennie and Andy are now Frank and Oscar. They are doing great. They both have really opened up and become very affectionate. They are a joy to watch. They play until they wear themselves out! I am sending some pictures for you to enjoy. Have a wonderful summer. Jenette and David

Sebastian and new pal Rebel

Sebastian got a new canine brother in addition to a new loving home.

Jackie and Betsy (formerly Jordan and Melinda)

I want to let you know the two tabbies that you sent home with us last Saturday are settling in very nicely. The one that seemed shy at PetSmart has not been shy since we got home! And the bolder one wants to be the alpha cat of all three. Our two year old cat, who is fairly large, seems fine with being a playful kitten again. We will send you some pictures in a day or two. Thanks very much for all your help.
Melinda and Jordan (who we renamed Jackie and Betsy)

Cocoa

"Honest Mom, I Was Just Sampling It"

Hi Donna... oh my goodness..,.. Cocoa Kitty is so funny... bad little thing but funny. She is a DADDY's girl. She must have spent some time around dogs because she acts like one. She steals food from my son's plate... carries food out of her bowl and moves it to another location to eat it... fetches toys. We love her so much... she has the best personality... but she is always getting into trouble. She is however a good natured kitty... she allows my husband to clip her nails and she talks up a storm... especially to him. She still loves to be brushed and loves for us to take the lint roller to her even more! Ashley

Willie

In March 2007, we adopted a sweet little kitten named "Willie" from CARE. In fact, his picture is still on the CARE website showing "Adopted." We got him from his Foster Mom, Dianne. I thought you guys (especially Dianne) might want to see how much he has grown and flourished in his new home. He has blended in as a loving and welcome member of the family. All of us (especially my children, Paul and Heather) give him constant attention and have really bonded with him. We thank the folks at CARE so much for all you do and for providing us with our newest member of our family! We were unsure if we wanted a new kitten but, we are SOOOO glad that we called! Jean, Very happy cat owner!

Gordo

Just wanted to send you a note to let you know that “Gordo” is doing great in his new home and is getting along well with his new family. Thanks for helping us find him! -The Harrison Family

Savannah (Formerly Georgia)

Sandra,
I wanted to thank you for all your help in my adoption of Georgia! She is the sweetest thing and I am absolutely in love with her! I've actually changed her name to Savannah, figuring that she is smart enough to realize Savannah is in Georgia, so it really isn't that drastic a change! When I brought her home, I expected her to be shy and timid for a few days, but instead she jumped right out of the carrier and did a once over of my apartment. She came back over to me and seemed to say "Alright, this will do." Then she noticed that her food bowl was empty and gave me a rather nasty look. After I filled it, she thanked me and began eating. We have gotten along terrifically ever since! She follows me from room to room and watches me do everything! In order to help her put on some weight, I've been feeding her wet-cat food every morning and she now knows to expect it, waking me up about 20 minutes early each day for her breakfast. I explain to her that she has a little while longer to wait and she responds with a meow and then quietly jumps up on the bed and falls asleep on my back until my alarm goes off. In the short time that I have had Savannah, I've gotten used to her being with me and look forward to seeing her after work! Thank you so much for your help in finding me the sweetest kitty.
Lauren

The Murphy Family Adopts Two

After meeting four CARE kittens, daughters Maggie and Maddie fell in love with Lulu and Jackson (and it was obviously mutual). Maggie has wanted a kitten since she was a very little girl but had developed hives around cats at that time. Recently, the family visited Maggie's aunt who has a cat that slept with the girls without any hives or allergies, and so the search was begun to find the perfect kittens for their household. They have a dog that plays with a friend's gerbil, so he now has his very own playmates. Being a foster might mean disrupting your Sunday to show a cat or kittens. However, to see a very happy family taking two healthy CARE kittens to a wonderful home situation makes it so worthwhile.

The Rogue's Gallery

Several CARE cats are very happy since being adopted into a permanent home, as evidenced by this daily "scene." We have Johnny, Coalie, Dino, Harry, Jonathan, and Mark. They lead such a hard life now!

Josie (Formerly Mariah)

As Mariah, the CARE cat, this calico beauty was extremely shy. Although she was very timid, she was also very gentle. No matter how scared she was at the adoption center, she never hissed, scratched, or tried to bite. We felt that all she needed was someone patient and understanding and that she would blossom once she knew that she was in a loving home from which she would never be separated. On April 21 along came Cathie and Randy, who were still grieving the recent death of their beloved boy cat. They visited with Mariah for quite some time and we CARE volunteers could see that if anyone was going to be able to bring her out of her shell, it would be them. We are so grateful that they decided to adopt her. She is now Josie and in a relatively short period of time she is doing better with Cathie and Randy than we expected. On 5-7 Cathie related the following: "She has improved greatly. The last 3 nights she has been sleeping on the bed with us. Not the entire night, but she sleeps awhile (often right up against me) and then hops down to play some and then back up she comes again. She'll come right up to both of our faces to see if we're awake and if we'll pet her. She comes out often when I'm sitting on the floor and plays with me. She still is skittish but I can't believe how much she has come around just in these 2 weeks. I'm spending lots of hours up in the room but it seems to be paying off. Just this morning she came right out to me and then hopped up on the bed. I'm thinking she's realizing that's a much more comfortable place than the floor!
Also, this morning she came out and followed me around the entire morning in the room while I was getting ready for work. She actually came up to me while I was walking! Usually she runs if she sees me walking. She was meowing like she wanted attention! I was just thrilled. Every day is just wonderful with her."
We just can not thank Cathie and Randy enough for taking this sweet girl into their lives and being willing to give her the time to become the gem that she is.

Mai Ling and Tai Ling

Mai Ling, Tai Ling & Malakai

Mee-ow!!! We just saw a great picture of our Foster Mom, Janet, and the family read the nice article about her. We just wanted her to know that we are still around and remember her purrr-fectly. Our sister, Malakai (she's the "different color" one), lives in Vienna, VA most of the time, but she visits quite frequently, and you can see by our pictures that we are still "family.". This is our favorite chair and sometimes all three of us sleep in it - but then you can't tell us apart. Purrs and meows to all our friends at CARE. Mai Ling and Tai Ling

Daisy Mae (Formerly Frenchie)

This photo of Frenchie was taken on her very first day in her new home. As you can see, it did not take her any time at all to feel comfortable and loved there.
6-4-07 Update: Thank you for posting our new family addition on your Alumni page. I should note that Frenchie's name was changed to Daisy Mae Boykin which fits her to a tee. She brings such joy and continuously shares her playful ways with us. Among her many toys, she especially loves her stuffed toy mouse which she takes with her throughout the house. It's a hoot when she sets her stuffed animal down next her food bowl while she eats. She gives us plenty of kisses and has a passion for playing under the sheets. We can't imagine not having Daisy Mae in our lives. Thank you for rescuing her and we commend you for your great works! Lily and Roger Boykin

Mallory

Dear Janet, It has been a while since we have updated you on Mallory, so I wanted to let you know how she's doing. She is fat as a butterball! So getting her to eat is no longer an issue. It's now getting her to stop! She's become a lot more playful and occasionally plays hide & seek with us. We have really gotten to like her sweet side. We still see her "defensive" side from time to time though. The vacuum is her worst enemy! She is doing great now and we really enjoy having her. She brings us lots of laughs and company. She is quite the lap cat. I've enclosed some pictures for you. Hope you are well! Sarah
Note: When Mallory was in her foster home, she had to be fed through a tube because she was not eating. It is wonderful to see that she is healthy now, even if she is a tad on the plush side.

Dottie and Lindsey

Dear Andrea, I have loved having Dottie around, she is a heart warmer. When she meows, it is like she hasn't seen me in forever! Dottie loves the toys that she has! We love watching her do twists, turns, and even some flips! She is a very talented kitten. Well, now she loves getting into the shower and the sink. I hope your cats are doing well. Cya soon! Love, Lindsey

Myra

Hi everybody! Just wanted send a quick update about Myra. Myra spends her days lounging on my bed or her other favorite spots, and playing with her furry mouse or my hair rubberbands. She's actually so obsessed with my hair bands that once she spots one in my hair she won't take her eyes off it and goes after it until I admit defeat and toss it on the floor (then she promptly loses it under the fridge). Myra follows me around, chatting in her expressive little kitty voice, always managing to communicate exactly what she thinks or wants. Usually she wants food, or a hair band -- or for me to wake up. She sleeps in the crook of my arm, and when I hit snooze on my alarm for the ninth time I look up to her big buggy eyes inches from my face and I hear the "get the hell up!" meow. I don't know how I ever lived without her furry little presence! Myra (who is right here snuggling) and I are so grateful to all of you dedicated souls at CARE who give these kitties a second chance!
Suzanne

Reesie (Theresa)

Cheryl, I just can not thank all of you ...you and Sheri and Jane...enough for pairing Theresa and my mom! They have bonded so quickly and my mother is absolutely thrilled to have her! We are calling her Reesie (like the peanut butter cups!) We thought it at least had the "RE" sound in it from the middle of Theresa and my daughter just loved the name! Anyway, from what I am hearing EVERY MORNING (ha!...Mom has to call me every morning now with "Reesie updates!"), they are providing some warm and wonderful company for each other. They have a morning ritual of sitting on the sofa, Reesie in Mom's lap, getting her morning petting and loving and just purring away. Mom said that this morning, when Reesie saw her coming down the hallway, she ran over to the sofa and sat down right there waiting for her because she knew what was coming! Isn't that precious! I just could not be more pleased! She is exactly what my mom needed in her life. And I credit each of you for making it possible, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. It certainly is a wonderful success story and I would love for it to maybe reach someone else who may be thinking about adopting from CARE. Keep up the outstanding jobs you are all doing! Because take it from me, you are not only helping the cats you place, but you are also helping the people who get them to fill that "empty" void that they may have in their life. A VERY BIG THANK YOU! Sincerely, Lee Ann

Update- I have tried to send a few of the more recent pictures and of their very favorite playtime activity which they spend hours a day doing together! And if they aren't playing with their shiny little wand playtoy, Reesie is in her lap! It is just precious. They truly have developed a very strong bond towards each other which I definitely think they BOTH needed.

Blackjack

This is Blackjack who was adopted by Jessica and her family. She says that he is wonderful! His 1 1/2 year old declawed brother, identical to Blackjack except for a small white patch on his chest, is available for adoption. He is a great cat too. For information please call Helen @ (804) 355-1357.
4-28-07 Update: Blackjack's brother has been ADOPTED!

Kingsford (L) (Formerly Bernie)

My husband and I adopted "Bernie" from the Short Pump PetSmart in August/September 2006. He is now known as Kingsford and he has been a wonderful addition to our family. He and our other cat, Bandit, get along perfectly...for the most part :). We have since relocated back home to New Hampshire. He has adjusted well and happily chases snowflakes at the window. I have attached a picture of Kingsford alone and one with him and Bandit. I can't believe he is already nearly a year old. Thank you for all the work you do. Sincerely, Sarah.

Lucy (Formerly China)

I would just like to say THANKS for all your organization does for cats and for people. My daughters and I love animals. We have 5 cats and a dog. Two of the cats are feral that I trapped years ago. The other 3 live inside with us. Mira aka Darby- she is a wonderful cat, who we adopted from your organization back in Sept. of '05. Raven- last summer my girls went to the grocery store to pick up something for me and came back with a 8 week old kitten- she is a joy. And finally- Lucy a/k/a China- who we just adopted yesterday from your organization. We already love her- I can’t say the same about the other 2 cats yet- but they will be fine in a few days. We will do all we can do to send folks your way to find themselves a great companion as well as raise monies for your cause. My daughters and I will be having a yard sale soon and we plan to raise funds for your organization and a dog rescue- we will send what we earn. God Bless you for all you do. Carole

Sylvester (Formerly Lucas)

I wanted to let you know that Sylvester has made himself right at home here...On Saturday night, even with a house full of company, he wanted to come out of the room we had him in...needless to say he has not been shut in that room anymore. He is using the potty in the box, wandering around the house, the only time he gets skittish is when he spots the dogs- he is starting to chase the puppy! He is a really cool cat and I want to thank you and everyone at CARE for all the help. Janet wasn't joking when she said he likes to be up high! Have a good day & thanks again.
Helene

Thomas

Dear CARE,
I found "Thomas" (Now known as Vincent Thomas Cat ... or Vince/Vincent) @ the Short Pump PetSmart and I immediately fell in love with him, although he likes to pretend otherwise at times, that is just the tough guy trying to show through. At heart he is a cuddle bug and can't resist some lovin'. I think he was pretty attached to me at first glance as well, so we both lucked out. He has been enjoying his new home and he seems to be as happy as a cute kitty can be. He is growing by leaps and bounds and he is as playful as ever. He loves affection and he gets plenty of it!! He is quite spoiled, but he wouldn't have it any other way (and neither would I). I've attached some pictures of his recent activities. He seems to be as much a lover of the camera as his daddy, but again we wouldn't have it any other way. Please pass along best wishes to Alison (who was Vince' foster mom) and the newest pictures. I'm sure she would like to know how he is doing. Thank you again for making it possible for me to have a new best friend.
Best wishes! -Michael Rekas

Bleu With His New Mom

Bleu and Roxy

This is Aaron Schmidt and Kara Holland. We wanted to let you know that Bleu is doing incredibly well adjusting to our little home. After he made a mess of himself in the car, we had to bathe him to get him clean. He struggled for 2 seconds, then let us wash him completely, which surprised us both. He has been living in his own room with excursions into the house. We started with a screen between them, then let them out after we figured out they wouldn't kill each other. Roxy is trying to act tough, but is thoroughly interested in everything Bleu does despite some hissing. They chase each other after a few minutes of play, and she still doesn't know quite what to do with Bleu, but he has been great about letting her take control and be the dominant one of the two. It's almost as if he knows how to let a woman have her space. Please extend a big thank you to all of the CARE volunteers, and especially Helen one more time for holding Bleu for us and showing us her beautiful home.
3-12-07 Update: Bleu has been an incredibly good sport about letting Roxy get used to him and the new situation. They have been nuzzling and hanging out together lately, and we think they're really enjoying each others' company. They seem to be incapable of letting each other out of each others' sight, unless they've worn each other out by racing around the house. We played referee for a while, and we are really happy with how they've been.

Splash and Skylar

I just wanted to send you guys a quick e-mail to let you know that Splash and Skylar have adjusted well to their new forever home. We often find ourselves wondering what ever did without them. We love them very much and as you can see they love each other very much as well. They love to sleep with us at night. Splash loves shoestrings and feathers. Skylar loves my hair and the new laser pointer. Man, that thing is like aerobics for kitties!!! They love it. Thank you so much for everything you did for us. Please contact us when Andrea gets some new babies. We would love to have another one. Thanks again! James and Jessica Robertson

Teeters With New Pal Rowdy

Dianne, Hi. I just wanted to write you a quick email and let you know how wonderfully Rowdy has adjusted to our family. There was really no adjustment period for Rowdy, he immediately made himself at home. He was purring as soon as I let him out of the carrier and he found the cats toys and started to play right away. It didn't even bother him that our cat Teeters wanted nothing to do with him at first, although that only lasted until Saturday morning. They have been playing with each other all weekend. Teeters watches over Rowdy and will play with a toy, but backs off when Rowdy comes along and lets Rowdy play. They really are doing well. It won't be long til we walk in to find them curled up asleep side by side. Right now they still sleep near each other, but keep a little distance between them. My husband loves Rowdy. He said that Rowdy's eyes look like a mouse, so he gave him the middle name of "mouse" LOL. Every once in awhile I hear him say "come here Rowdy Mouse" and the darling kitten comes running. Rowdy has slept with us both nights and doesn't seem to be bothered by anything. I woke up Saturday morning to find him asleep between my head and my husband's head. He manages to fit into any space near us no matter how small. We are so glad to have him as part of our family. We look forward to many years of joy that he will bring to our family. Take care, Heather and Rowdy (meow)

Hannah and New Mom, Robin

Robin fell in love with Dianne's little gray foster girl, Smokie, when she saw her picture on the CARE website. When she came with her husband to meet the last kitten remaining from a litter of five, it was an immediate case of mutual affection. Robin had already picked out a name for this little grey ball of fur, and Hannah she became.

Dino Working On Overcoming His Stress

CARE alumnus Dino A/K/A The Bedhog.

Jon and Mark

We have been in our permanent home with our human parents for about 8 years now. As you can see, we really hate each other. Our parents have foster kitties plus 9 other cats of their own. However, we never lack for attention. We are lucky, lucky cats! Signed: Jon and Mark

Ozzy (Formerly Tuck)

"We adopted Ozzy (formerly "Tuck") from you at the Short Pump Petsmart on January 6, 2007. He is a very loving cat whom we all fell in love with immediately. We lost our cat Rosebud in November (she was 22 years old) and Ozzy has really filled a void and brought much joy. He sleeps with my 9 year-old daughter at night and sneaks a nap with our 5-year old laborador retreiver, Lucy, during the day. Thank you for giving Ozzy a home and caring for him in the months before he came to live with us! With sincere and heartfelt thanks, The Smith family"

Thomas

"We adopted Thomas (2-3 yr old bulls eye tabby) in Sept. at Short Pump. We can't imagine life without him- He is our little baby- spoiled rotten. He loves his new home- and has really warmed up to us- ( Came out of hiding less than 24 hrs after coming home). Just wanted to thank C.A.R.E. for bringing this little angel into our lives."
Suzanne

Lil and Phil (formerly Jangles and Camille)

"The Fields family adopted Phil and Lil (formerly Jangles and Camille) in December 2006. This brother and sister pair immediately stole our hearts and took over the house. They love to chase each other, wrestle, and play hide and seek. We call them our "bookends" because they are never far apart and always fall asleep in mirror positions. They are extremely affectionate and love to cuddle with whoever is napping on the couch. In the photo Lil is on the left and Phil is on the right. We can't imagine being without them and thank C.A.R.E for bringing them into our lives."

Sammy

Hi Dianne, To update you on my Sammy, he still has the spotted tummy but it's not as distinct now as his fur is longer. He is sweet as can be, very affectionate and loving and wants to sit on me at any chance possible. He is quite petite and likely will stay that way as he is 6 months now and probably won't grow much more. However, my other adoptee, Micky, who is about 7 months according to my vet, is HUGE. Very tall, long and lanky with exceedingly large feet. They look like Mutt and Jeff, but have bonded beautifully. They romp, wrestle, fight, play, groom and sleep together. I couldn't ask for more lovable, delightful companions. Best Regards, Lee

Nibbles (Formerly Scamp)

Thank you sooo much! Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that I adopted "Scamp" (now Nibbles) from the litter of 9 week old kittens on Feb 2nd. Andrea was the foster mother and she was so incredibly nice! I arranged a time to meet the kittens at her home and fell in love with all of them but unfortunately could only take home one. Andrea patiently explained all the paperwork and vet treatments Scamp had already had and still needs. She also did an excellent job litter training my kitten. We have had NO accidents in 3 days! My family is completely in love with our new kitten. I'm including some pics! Thanks again for your wonderful organization! Lara

Foster

Hi Cheryl and Craig, Here are a few pics of the lad for you. He's really settled in well now and is an absolute sweety. I don't think I've ever had such a playful cat as Foster, or such a snuggly one either. He has me laughing so much at his antics. One of his favourite games is to have a toy flicked down the stairs. The rule appears to be that it must get to the bottom. If it stops halfway down, he finishes the job himself, and that seems to be part of the fun. Once down there on the lino floor, he bats it around for a while (sharpening his claws on the doormat in the process) and then picks it up and carries it back up to have it flicked down again. This can go on for some considerable time, so I'm glad he 'fetches'! There are 14 steps, so it's good exercise for him. He also loves to chase a length of string around the house, up, over and under. He likes the plastic rings that come off products like milk when you open them too. All but one of the rings we bought and you sent with him have vanished. He likes them best in the kitchen on the lino floor and I suspect that when the oven and fridge are moved, there'll be a collection. We've managed to rescue a few, but not all. He snuggles with us when the TV is on, or drives himself batty playing with a soft ball through the slats of the coffee table shelf. He talks a lot, especially at mealtimes. Other times, he kind of mutters to himself or us, as if passing an opinion. He's an adorable little man to be sure, and is in the best of health - certainly as far as his appetite is concerned. Every trip into the kitchen must surely mean he's being fed again! I get long dissertations on that subject. Oh, he's quite smart too. He can't jump on to the kitchen counters, but where there's a will there's a way. He came at them from the back route. That involved a chair, a table, a ledge at the stairwell, a high counter between the dining and kitchen areas, and a neat drop down on to the counter where I was working. I didn't see what he was up to until he arrived suddenly. He looked at me and I looked at him and the word "No" was discussed. Off he went, muttering to himself. I'm probably glad I didn't understand what he was saying. I hope all is well with you both and with your feline family. Take care, Veronica

Dennis

HI, Attached is a photo of Dennis snuggling with my boyfriend, Jason! I adopted him on Saturday from you guys at Petsmart. He's adjusting well, hiding a little, but comes out and plays and cuddles some, as you can see. I think he's just wonderful! I'll keep you updated on his progress as he gets more adjusted to his new forever home! Thanks, Michelle

Stephanie

I am a CARE alumna. I really really have it very hard in my permanent home! I have been here several years. I have TOO MUCH WORK TO DO! That is why I stay so thin! Signed: Stephanie Cat

Dotty, Formerly Kelly

I adopted Kelly @ Petsmart @ Short Pump on Dec. 16th...
We renamed her Dotty. I wanted to let everyone know that she's adjusting well....and we love her very much! And I hope to send pictures as she grows..and I wanted to thank you all for the chance to care for her.
Thank you,
Kathryn Gustavson

The Powers' Kitties, Timmy & Lily

Dear Care:
We wanted to wish you Happy Holidays! It has been 4 years since our adoption and we are very happy and well in our home. I was very sick when I came to live here and it took months to get well but I have been fine ever since. We have 2 annoying dog sisters that think they are boss but really we still rule the house. My litter mate, Lily, is still very shy and stays in our parents bedroom when visitors come. I like to socialize and roll over to have my stomach scratched by any willing human. I am what everyone calls a "big boy" and Lily is thin and sleek but Dr. Mark says we are both perfectly healthy. My parents go to PetSmart and come home talking about all the wonderful kittens they see there. They can't adopt anymore but we wish you great success in the New Year for placing all those relatives of mine. In the photos, I am the "fluffy" one. Lily is hiding underneath me in one of the photos and Luci, one of my dog sisters is standing beside me in another photo.
Meow,
Timmy Powers

Mai Ling, Tai Ling

Just wanted to wish all our "CARE" family a Merry Christmas. We are doing fine and our sister, Malakai, who now lives in Vienna, VA, will be visiting us for three weeks to help us celebrate the Christmas season. Can't wait for that tree to be put up! A special Merry Christmas to our foster Mom, Janet, from us and our "People Family". Mai Ling, Tai Ling

Pumpkin (Formerly Frannie) Silveira

Pumpkin, our "little love muffin", is by far the sweetest little girl. My husband and I adopted her last year after realizing that our other cat, Smelly, needed a friend. It was certainly a challenge uniting the two together, after all Smelly had been an "only child" for 6 years. After a few weeks passed the two were spotted sharing a spot in the window. Their love for one another has grown, but Smelly occasionally still likes to show her that he was there first. Over the past year she has come out of her shell and has shown her personality. She has been a great addition to our family and a real joy to come home to after a long day of work. Michael and I give many thanks to C.A.R.E for their support of and passion for animals.

Buster

Buster was adopted by Jim and he loves his new family. Buster romps with his new friend, Burton, a 100 lb. golden lab. He loves to sleep on the bed when he is not chasing Burton around the kitchen. His favorite place is looking out the window while sitting on the end table. C.A.R.E. is so grateful to the wonderful family that has taken Buster into its heart.

Alice Farrow

Alice was adopted on 6-24-06 and her new family says that "she's a love to have around."

Max Eddleton

Max was adopted on 6-28-03 and, as the photo shows, he has settled in nicely. Should his family decide to travel, it looks like he is ready to accompany them.

Mardi, Comfortable and Happy in Her New Home

Mardi's new mom, Johanna, says that she likes to imagine that if Mardi could write, she might want to say something like this: "I was rescued from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina by a very nice man named Michael. He and his wife Lanell took wonderful care of me on behalf of CARE until a permanent home could be found. One family took me home, but they had some expectations I couldn’t meet, and kindly brought me back to the folks at CARE. I was kind of sad but then a new family came along and has brought me to live with them. There are three crazy cats there, and an old dog who sleeps a lot, but it’s fun. So far my favorite things to do are: play with Chance, drink from the sink, play with the water from the sink, and sleep on the sofa. I am happy."

Gargamel, Formerly Spin, With His New Mom Sharon

Gargamel, Sleepy and Happy, In His New Home

The kitten (formerly known as "Spin") has been with us for over a week now and he's the most lovable, playful, adorable creature in the world. Having him in our home has made coming home feel so much cozier. I'd like to thank Andrea, and send her some pictures, if possible, for helping us obtain such a delightful pet.

Cookie With Her New Family

Dear Helen, I just wanted to write and thank you for your help with Cookie. Everyone at CARE has been so helpful and kind! Cookie is doing fantastic. She marched out of her cat carrier and stormed around the house like she has been there for years. I introduced her to the dog and she promptly slapped him a zillion times until he was crying like a baby. She has been staying in my bedroom pretty much. She is still not sure about the dog and doesn’t want to come out. This morning she came out and walked around while the dog was outside. She is my cuddle bug and has been sleeping with me every night. I think by the end of the week she will be settled in and will be able to tolerate the dog. Thanks again! Alison

Mai Ling and Tai Ling and Malakai

We were adopted from Foster Mom-Janet about a month ago. We are sisters, but "Malakai" (the orange one) looks different from "us". Our names are Mai Ling and Tai Ling because we look kind of like Siamese kitties. Malakai actually lives in Vienna, VA, but is visiting "us" while her family does some traveling. We all get along very well and generally all sleep in the Longaberger basket you see here. Sometimes we separate, but not often. We're very glad Janet found us a nice "comfortable" home. Thanks from our family, too!

Lucy (On Left), Formerly Lucille, With New Best Friend Sam
(6-12-06 Update)

Please see Lucy's first story below.
She was originally rescued from a neighborhood where someone was poisoning the cats.

Just had to drop you a quick note about Lucy and Sam. They have "new" regular games that they play every morning and evening like clockwork, and it's "hide and seek". Sam can always find Lucy because she gets so excited she can't stop herself from jumping out at Sam, but it's a whole different story when it's Sam's turn to hide. He takes off running, finds a fast hiding place and is as still as a mouse. Then Lucy starts looking and looking for him. After about 4 minutes of searching, she becomes almost hysterical and starts screaming at the top of her lungs for him. No words to tell you how funny this is! She flies back to the bedroom still yelling and looking......Sam creeps out and slinks back to the bedroom and catches her just as she rounds the corner....they both leap in the air and then the "tumbling" begins. It's is something to behold when you see this going on for most of the day.......I love it! A few minutes ago, I saw them cuddled up on the bed together, so I got the camera phone ready, flicked on the light as fast as I could and snapped this pic for you (I think there's going to be a "wedding" any day). Jenny

Wheezie (Formerly Daysi)

(Adopted Feb. '06)

Hi my name is Wheezie (I used to be Daysi) and I just wanted to give you an update on my new family. I LOVE THEM and they love me. My new brother George (the grey one) and I are best friends. We play everyday and into the early mornings, but thats ok with mom and dad- they are just glad I'm not hiding anymore. I'm not shy anymore either. I run around like I own this house...my favorite thing to do is play with the 50 or so balls that my mom got me. I take them everywhere. Well, just wanted to say thanks for rescuing me from that Days Inn parking lot and let you know I'm healthy and as happy as can be. Thanks for all you do for my fellow kittens and cats!!! Love, Wheezie

Sophia (Formerly Katie)

On Left Above

A while ago our family updated you on Peaches....now known as Zitabella. Shortly after we adopted her we also adopted Katie....now known as Sophia. Sophia was extremely shy for the first month and hid under our bed, but after that time passed by she started to come out of her shell and has now become part of our family. She and Zitabella are now best buddies and play all day long and sleep next to each other. Here's a picture so you can all see just how well they're doing. The Marencik's

Bruce (Formerly Butterball)

Last year I adopted a wonderful cat from y'all named Butterball. He is the love of my life! We changed his name to Bruce (he's too skinny to be a butterball!) and he has shown us nothing but love, love, and more love! He will ask to be picked up and loves to be carried around like a baby! I can't ever get over how much character he has. I've enclosed a couple of photos for you. Thank you, thank you, thank you all for EVERYTHING you do for these wonderful animals! Reading through the page of available kitties, it just broke my heart how cruel people can be, and how incredible you all are to just put all of those pieces right back together. You all are doing such an amazing, beautiful thing! Thank you for doing the right thing for these animals! Thank you for being who you are! Nicole

Lucy (Formerly Lucille)

I swear, if Lucille (now "Lucy") isn't the sweetest girl ever! I've gotten nothing but major big kisses and head butts. What a love she is! Here's Lucy within just a few hours of being with me in her new home. She's on the futon in the extra bedroom and has made a fast friend with my stuffed tiger hahahaha. Thanks again for EVERYTHING! She is and will always be loved. Jenny 5/6/06

Jag

Shelbi

Stacey and Shane adopted these guys from CARE and are smitten with them. "In October 2005 we adopted two adult cats from C.A.R.E. One is a large, black male we’ve named Jag. The second is a smaller, gray and white female we’ve named Shelbi. Jag seemed to settle in almost immediately, while Shelbi took a little more time. It’s May 2006 and both have adapted to their new environment very well and are quite demanding of our attention. When they are not immediately on top of us (sometimes literally), they are either sleeping or eating. Shelbi gets a case of the crazies and has to chase … well, nothing really. Jag looks on with complete disregard. He’s older and really isn’t that interested."

Monty

Anthony

Although he was medically fine, Monty had litter box issues that would not permit him to live as an indoor cat. He was adopted by a wonderful lady who has a horse farm, and now Monty enjoys the company of his equine companions and the comfort and security of a very nicely appointed barn. Anthony also had issues that did not permit him to be adopted as an indoor cat. Thank you, Sylva, for giving them good lives.

Sweetie Pie (Formerly Kelson)

"If you look real close, you'll see one of my hair bands on his belly.  He was playing with
it.  He makes us laugh every day!
"

Hello Helen, I've been meaning to forward you some pictures of our adorable "Sweetie Pie" that we adopted from you in January. Harrison renamed him Sweetie Pie and he has been a wonderful addition to our family! He is so tender and loving and all of my friends just love him....he just sits and lets everyone pet him and loves to roll over and get his tummy rubbed! He and Harrison get along great. They race up and down the stairs...usually the kitty wins! And, he loves siting at the front door looking out and hanging out in the windows when I have them up. We are very blessed to have him. Thanks for allowing us to come and take a look at him. Darla & Harrison

Zitabella (Formerly Peaches)

This was taken after my daughter, Jocelyn, opened her Easter presents that were sent from my in-laws. As you can see....Peaches is getting along with the other cats now. Cleo....our black and white cat.....has taken Peaches under her wing and treats her almost as if she were her daughter. They often play together and Cleo will look the other way when little Peaches bites at her tail. Peaches...aka....Zitabella.....loves watching the squirrels and birds in our backyard from our six kitchen windows. When we're playing with her she has this sound she makes that sounds like she's a car putting on its brakes. The leg doesn't hinder her at all and we've even seen her jump as high as four feet in the air to get a toy. The only "trouble" she's gotten into happened last week when she must of jumped up onto one of the shower curtains and her claw got stuck in it. She was kind of hanging about 6 inches off the ground and crying. Cleo alerted us to the situation and followed Peaches around for about an hour to make sure she was ok. Sheryl

Xander

I adopted a cat from CARE in December and I love him to death! I've attached the picture of Xander we took at Christmas for you to see. Thanks so much! Kristen

Lulabelle (Formerly Mamie)

This is Lulabelle (formerly Mamie). I adopted her from CARE at the Merchant’s Walk Petsmart in March of 2006! Lula is doing so well; she loves CATNIP, sleeps with me, and is just the biggest LOVE BUG. She is just a blessing. I am so grateful to you all for all that you do and making it possible for me to find Lula and I can only hope that I am making her as happy is she is making me! Thank you all at CARE! Lots of love, Brandy & Lula

Lilly (Formerly Lillian)

Attached are some pictures of Lilly (previously named Lillian). Within the past couple of weeks, Lilly has started rolling around on her back to get my attention. She is so cute. She also occasionally chases her tail. Every morning she comes into the bathroom and sits on the toilet until I get out of the shower. She is really loving, getting in my lap whenever I sit down and sleeping on the foot of the bed all night long.

Ambrose

Ambrose Riding In Style In His Stroller

Cheryl,
It was good seeing you at PetSmart. We adopted Ambrose on November 1, 2005. I understand he was a problem kitty and you had problems finding a good home for him. Well he now has a good home and is one of the family. He has acclimated real well and loves to eat and play. We take him outside in his stroller and he loves the sights and sounds of the outdoors. We are very happy with our boy and appreciate your rescuing him. He is our new joy at home. Mike & Rene Miller

Eddie

Joey

Hello Janet,
I just wanted to share a few photos of Eddie and Joey. They are settling in nicely now and will both come down to sit on our laps to watch TV in the evenings, even with our dog Greta in the room. Greta is a little afraid of them (Joey hissed at her) and she gives them the respect they deserve.
=) Jess and John

CARE Note: These two lovable big lugs are a bit older and had to wait a while for the perfect family to adopt them. Sincere thanks to their foster mom, Janet, and to Jess and John for taking them into their hearts. By the way, the Greta that Joey intimidated with his hiss is a gentle giant, a mastiff.

Sierra

Sandy,
Just wanted to let you know that little Sierra is doing great! It’s only been a week, but she has really come to life and loves having a home to dominate (I mean, “live” in!) She’s a perfect fit for me and I’m sure we will have many happy years to come! Thank you VERY much and keep up the amazing work you and your team do for these cats. Cathy Guske

Angel

Dear Sandy,
Hard to believe it's only been a year Feb. 5. Angel has become such a part of my life it feels like I've had her for years! She is a sweetheart (or as I call her, "Momma's Angel Girl"). Thanks. Hope you are well. Cathy

Cocoa Kitty- At Ease In Her New Home

.... Cocoa is doing great! She is such a sweet girl and the lap kitty that I have always wanted! She has made great friends with our male cat, Otis... Ashley

Emma the Cat and Maggie

This past August my husband and I adopted "Bernie/Bernadette" now known as "Emma" from Petsmart for our daughter's surprise 16th birthday present! Well Emma is a dream come true. We wanted a very loving and cuddling kitten/cat- she lives up to that and so much more! Maggie our Golden Retriever thanks you for her loving companion too! Thank you. Ted, Suzanne and Alicia

Calvin & Hobbes

I just wanted to pass along a quick note on Calvin & Hobbes. My Husband and I adopted them this past weekend at the Merchants Walk PetSmart. I just fell in love with them at the moment I laid eyes on them. It just broke my heart that they had been with a loving family for 5 years and now were without them. I knew I had to bring them home! They have been adjusting very well (and much better than I initially anticipated!) and have been eating well also. Thank you all so very much for allowing us to adopt Calvin & Hobbes! They are just so handsome and make me smile with anticipation on arriving home at the end of a busy work day! Sincerely, Eleanor W. Ross

Harry

Harry ended up being adopted by his foster mom. Is there any wonder why?

Smoochie-Lovingly Adopted By Annette Wood

Dear Maria:
Just a quick note letting you know about Smoochie and his new home. He's a doll! A purr machine! Rhiannon, my other cat, and Smoochie spend hours playing. It took about a week for them (or should I say Rhiannon) to completely acclimate.
You're doing such a great thing with C.A.R.E.
My Best,
Annette Wood

Honey

Hi, every day or so I have been going to the web site to see how Honey was doing. When I went in last night, I really got scared that she had been taken off for some reason. Then I kept scrolling down and saw that she had been adopted.  I was so happy I cried, then when I told my daughter she cried, and my husband was ecstatic. My friends were happy too.  Honey had wrapped herself around our hearts when she took to our porch. The day I saw her sitting in the middle of the road is the day she got me and I brought her on the porch. We only wished that we could keep her, but with the two other cats in the house it was impossible, and you know we could not keep the poor thing out in the cold. She is the sweetest, most wonderful cat we had ever met-other than my two in the house of course!  That is why my family and myself will be ever so grateful to CARE for taking her for us.  You did the same for another cat that had been abandoned across the street and found him a great home. I pray that Honey has found a good home finally, and will never ever have to fear being put out again. She deserves that much and more.  Thank your for all you and every one at C.A.R.E. does for all these creatures.  I only wish my finances would allow me to help more, but one day maybe that will change, and I will be able to give more.  All I can do is offer up my prayers of thanks to beautiful people like yourself and all the volunteers for saving the lives of these unfortunate cats and kittens.  God Bless and a very Merry Christmas to you!  Again thank you, thank you and thank you again for saving Honey, and finding her a new family to love.

Harry

A Shaved Fred Before He Became Harry

Here is our Christmas card picture. All my boys are so cute, especially the furry one. Laura

Indiana

Here is C.A.R.E. graduate "Indiana" (renamed from Geoff. We took him home to a bored two year old male cat (Tobey) who just wanted a friend. Tobey didn't know what in the world to expect from this little guy and gave him a few hisses and mean faces the first day. After only a day, the two started playing and Tobey and Indiana are now the best of friends. Indiana is still a kitten and Tobey, who used to be bored and restless, is now tired and exhausted from all the playing. Thank you C.A.R.E. for delivering this precious kitten into our lives.

Doyle and Harrington

The tuxedo is Doyle (previously Caleb), and the Dark tabby is his buddy Harrington (previously Sam). They're both doing awesome, Doyle loves to lie down next to the keyboard while I am at the computer, and Harrington is still testing all the soft sleeping spots in the house (beds, couches, futons, laundry basket, etc.).

Wallace

Wallace was adopted into a perfect home. Obviously, he has the perfect home!

Montana

In April I adopted a cat, Montana (now known as BigMan), from the Virginia Center Commons area PetSmart. I just have to share with everyone how much I love this cat. He is the sweetest! He sleeps with me and my Yorkie every night, he is very vocal, he loves people (including small children), and when he goes outdoors he stays in his own backyard (amazing!). The day I went into PetSmart I had no intention of adopting a cat, but I saw this one, went in the back and spent time with him and we just bonded.
Thanks so much to Sue & the C.A.R.E. program!
Delores

Belle

Just wanted to give an update on the kitten I adopted about two or so weeks ago. She was one of Grace's kittens. Her name is Belle and she's doing great! She loves to run and play. She is definitely keeping her new sister Mali on her toes. They love to chase each other and wrestle, then snuggle. Very cute! Tina

Craig (CARE volunteer)

This is a CARE volunteer being loved by some of the CARE cats he has adopted for himself. He always had a hard time giving up his fosters. (He has more cats which are not pictured, too.)

Callie Rochelle

Callie Rochelle, while not an old cat at all, was missing a number of her teeth when she was adopted. She is much loved and obviously living the spoiled life that she was always meant to live.

Check

CARE (especially Maria Tonneson) went the extra mile to find a home for Check, FIV positive. He is now firmly ensconced in our family and a very happy kitty. He and our big cat Fez (also a CARE alumnus) have become fast friends and play all the time. Little sister Lucy (CARE alumnus 2003) still isn't thrilled with him, but she's tolerating the boys crashing around pretty well! Many thanks for the effort on behalf of so many cats like Check!

Sparky

Sparky is a spoiled cat. He is in his favorite easy chair in a sprawled out position. We LOVE him and cannot thank CARE enough for allowing us to adopt him. Sparky's family, the Crewses.

Justine

Just wanted to give you an update on the cat I adopted last month from the Petsmart at Libbie Plaza. Justine (previously Josie/Josephine) is doing great, she's got a roommate now and adapting to her new environment.

Perri

Perri, a former CARE cat, won second in an Easter contest.

Lucy and Fezzik

We adopted Lucy from her former family through CARE about a year and a half ago. She was one of five FIV+ cats, numerous dogs, and two ferrets living together, and was VERY unhappy about it. We had gone a long time without a pet and were overjoyed to get such a loving animal and when we saw Fezzik (formerly Sylvester) and saw what a sweet cat he was, we had to have him.
We can't say Thank You enough to the wonderful people at CARE (especially Maria, who took care of Fez's brother as well). Every day is so much better because we get to spend it with these two angels!
***PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: FIV is NOT a death sentence for a cat. Most cats with FIV live long, healthy lives with no symptoms. If you're thinking of adopting a cat (and you don't already have cats who are not FIV+), please consider adopting an FIV kitty. They can't give it to humans or dogs, and they are just as deserving of a good home as any other cat.

J.P.

J. P. is making himself comfortable with his new mom. What a lucky young man kitty!

Dino and Harry

Dino and Harry, happily adopted to a fine home, enjoying the outside FROM inside.

Murphy and Guiness

"The boys are settling in just fine. They seem very happy in their new home, in fact Guinness has found a favorite nap spot already. Murphy and Guinness have been very good about getting their ear medicine. Both Ciarrai and I are so happy to have them in our family."

Guinevere

My name is Brenda Lantz and we adopted Guinevere about a month ago. She is awesome. I asked for a cat that would fit in with my family of 6, one that was playful but loved to be held and one that would get along with my dog of 3 years. Well she is all that and more. Thank you so much for taking care of her till she found her way to us.

Melania

Melania was adopted from Petsmart at M. Walk and flew to Florida to live forever:

"I can't tell you how happy my daughter is to have received this beautiful feline addition to our family-- not to mention, the plane trip went very well, and this beautiful kitty is very content in her new home. She gets lots and lots of hugs and kisses.

What a great Easter gift for us both. I want to thank YOU so much for the special attention you showed me by helping me so much, the carrier the extras were very much appreciated and I just want you to know my heart is so happy with the adoption of this very special girl!!!!"

Chloe

Lucy

I found Lucy when she was 4 weeks old at the corner of Governor and Bank Street downtown. As I was petting her and trying to calm her, and angel by the name of Penny with C.A.R.E. came up behind me and asked what I had. No questions asked, she took the kitten to work with her. I couldn't stop thinking of Lucy and Penny said I had saved her and could have anytime I wanted. She and Andrea cared for my little Lucy until she could be tested...I had a sick 14 year old tortie named Grimmy at home and I didn't want to take any chances. I brought Lucy home, and she was such a comfort when Grimmy passed away. The day after Grimmy's passing, I went and met another angel with C.A.R.E. named Helen. She was fostering Chloe (formerly Joy) and it was love at first sight. Lucy and Chloe love each other so much...they clean each other, play for hours, and sleep in kitty beds next to each other in the window. My wonderful cats are a testament to the amazing volunteers and foster parents with C.A.R.E. Thanks to all of you for giving me my girls...I love them with all of my heart.

"Last October my son and I adopted Luna (formerly Allison) from the Broad Street Petsmart. We have enjoyed her immensely. She has been such a comfort to us after loosing our 11 year old boxer (to whom she had befriended) just last week. As you can see she is a spoiled very, very happy kitty. We love her dearly." (J.A., Midlothian)

This is a CARE kitty who is obviously VERY MUCH LOVED by her owner. This human gentleman brought her into Petsmart to show her off to the volunteer from whom he adopted her many months ago.

Tarzan

My name is Tarzan. I was taken by CARE from the local KILL SHELTER last spring. I have a terminal liver problem so my foster mom adopted me. She did not want me to die without a "last name". I was expected to live until the summer. Well, I have proved my vet wrong! I gained from 4 to 8.5 pounds, run, jump, eat lima beans and cheese and other strange stuff for cats, and am going strong in February. What a nice story....for me!

Cabbit

Hi my name is Becky and I adopted Cabbit, I just wanted to thank CARE for letting me adopt Cabbit. He is a blessing to our loving family and I think that all of you are doing a great job by trying to find these precious cats a home. I wish I could have adopted more but I can't. I will take very good care of Cabbit.

Mannix

I was just on your web site and I wanted to send an update about our kitty that we adopted back in October from the Merchant's Walk PetSmart. He is all white except for a smudge of black on the very top of his head. We had a hard time deciding on which kitty we wanted that night when we were there, but now we know we definitely made the right decision. We named him Mannix (meaning = little monk) and my husband calls him "Mannix the Maniac" because he is so crazy always full of energy and chasing his older sister around.

O'Malley and Patti

These are O'Malley and Patti, both CARE cats who are now in one happy household living with other CARE cats.....very deprived, as you can tell......

Teresa

Teresa is so happy as is her new owner Kathleen. Teresa lives in a large apartment with a loft and pipes up high. She loves to travel all around the pipes overhead.
Jonathan is a rescued CARE cat who is now terrifically happy in his permanent home. He was completely freaked upon entering the CARE system. It has taken a while, but Jon has now adapted to his human parents and feline brothers and sisters and settled in for the rest of his life. His fears are gone, and he loves everyone. His nickname is "Possum". Wonder why?
