In Memory of Spinner & Punky Robillard

We have received a donation from Gary and Marcia Robillard in memory of Spinner and Punky Robillard with the following note.
"After long and pampered lives, we've recently lost two of our kitties. Spinner went to sleep last October and, just when we were dealing better with that, our Punky gave up the fight last week. Believe me, my wife and I both know how much your pets get in your heart and become a big part of your life. Spinner and Punky insisted we get involved in some small way to help you and the kitties entrusted to your care. Please use this money to help with expenses to give each and every cat at least a chance for a "forever" home and a long, pampered, loving life. We'd like to acknowledge the doctors and staff at the Lee Davis Veterinary Hospital for their compassionate and gentle care which helped us through a difficult time and allowed our kitties to make a peaceful transition."

In Memory of Gabriel Ives
1998-2009

"Gabriel came to me like an angel. His family threw him out, de-clawed and defenseless. He was found all cut up, abscessed, hungry, thin, and scared. A vet saw his gentle soul and saved him. He was simply the kindest, most loving, magnificent man. He followed me from room to room, needing to be with me always. He never complained about anything, only seeking to love. I thought I could never love another cat as I did him, but the amazing gift he gave to me was the size of the hole he left in my heart. Because of that, I can bring other rescued babies into my heart, thereby honoring Gabriel and keeping alive his love and his legacy. I shall forever be grateful for his love."

In Memory of Cashew and Rinso Donation from Tracy Adams in memory of shelter babies Cashew and Rinso, and in honor of Terry Adams.
In Memory of Nick Solomon, beloved rescued kitty of Liz Solomon I recently posted a donation of $150 to CARE through the online gifting resource. Perhaps someone there will remember me, I am the woman from New York who was a Client/Friend of Joan Peaslee from SOS who fostered and then adopted Felicia in 2003 (actually picked her up at PetSmart on New Year's Day). This donation is to honor Felicia, for whose rescue from the abyss of the Richmond pound I gratefully thank CARE each and every day. Felicia is doing fine, or she was until Thanksgiving weekend when her (and my) very much beloved orange and white companion Nick (also a Richmond relocatee--he and his companion belonged to a woman who died when they were senior kitties) died very suddenly. While she's adapted very well to being a New York girl (contrary to belief they don't drink Kitty Cosmos or have Louis Vuitton litterboxes), she still has more than a little of a Southern accent to her meow. No doubt she wished she had more space and could stand to lose five pounds but that just puts her along with every other person, dog, cat and elephant in New York City. Regardless she is completely adored and pampered like the rock star she is. I now work as a volunteer adoption counselor with a wonderful group called City Critters which follows CARE's mission of rescuing cats from our animal control system and I expect that Felicia's new boyfriend will come from among the terrific cats I meet there. May you continue offer the blessings of love and happy homes to so many deserving cats (especially the seniors...wow that's excellent that you rescue them and find homes)...as I continue to thank you for the blessing of Felicia.

Jefferson was our "little orange guy".  We first met him almost eight years ago while living in Alaska, when he was only six weeks old.  Over the years, Jeffers became an integral part of our family.  He was the only cat (of our five) who didn't mind being picked up and carried around; he loved to snuggle, clutch your finger with his paw, and give you kisses on your nose.  He was a friendly and intelligent animal (talkative too) and we miss him terribly.

In Memory of Spike
Donation by Michie Longley in memory of beloved pet of Roszlind Moss.

"Spike was born in a dumpster in St. Paul, Minnesota, and was rescued by PAL, along with his mom, another mom cat and 11 surviving kittens. He was the last of the batch to be adopted because he was a Magic Cat who decided to materialize in front of me on a stack of large fertilizer bags in the garden store hosting adoptions. As an adult, he perfected this ability to disappear and re-materialize with a blink of his eye. His full name was Ehrendil the Elfcat, but was called Spike since that was the opposite of his appearance: powderpuff-soft fur with brown stripes on a lilac basecoat, pristine white chest and paws, huge round, powder-blue eyes, and a pale pink nose that glowed fuchsia when he was excited. A pink-and-blue kitty cat, the lilac coat and blue eyes the only features betraying a distant Siamese heritage. (He was a cat of few words, who was also seriously gravity-prone.) He was a real guy cat, though, even after my ex had his claws removed. He faced down an opossum in my Richmond basement for an entire night, and spent a whole afternoon cooperating with the Siamese tom from next door to chew and pick through the pantry window screen so he could get out and mix it up on the back porch. He died mysteriously at 13 1/2 years--way too soon. I will always be grateful to the wonderful neighbors and friends who helped me function that awful Sunday evening. And to old friends like Michie who've helped me cope since. Froggy and Sushi are great girls, but they are definitely not Spike."

In memory of Cleveland

Donation received by the Care Volunteers in Memory of Art Ratcliffe's beloved Cleveland (feline).

"An Appreciation of Cleveland W. Catt, who was always grateful, with dignity and compassion, for the Life of being my faithful companion.
who I tried to positively praise when, as a kitten, she could "really climb those tree
and as an adult cat, when she relished in my prase of her personhood, of her goodness, and of her beautiful tail.
who would let Katie look down from her bed-time box on the shelf at Hunt Club, and let me read half a page before coming down the hallway, jumping onto the foot of the bed, suggesting that when I read, it should be her,
and who continued to tuck me in until just a few nights ago.
who complained not of my frequent lapses of care and times of neglect, who complained not of the absence of play, growing from kittenhood to a time of being a responsible Eldercat, caring for her Human, and without pettiness, doing the necessaries for others in her care (such as licking little Katie's ears).
who was such a good television-watching, music-listening companion, who, bereft of piettiness, always possessed the proper dignity befitting her position,
one whose self less dedication of character would surely put to rest Descartes' assertion that such as she were incapable of emotional feeling, or any thought that such as she were not part of God's total fabric of being - or that those such as she were not destined to possess that which we mere humans call a heavenly Soul.

She was but only a cat?
Yes!  and every bone in her body - every bit of flesh and fur - was what she was, without reservation, or unseemly hesitation!
THANK YOU, DEAR CLEVELAND,*  a true friend, for giving your life to mine!
*called Home to be with her Lord while awaiting human intervention and receiving pallative care in the Hospital."

In memory of Dear Sweet Innocent Nell

Nell was about 15 to 18 years old, solid white, been a pet...maybe.  She was helpless because she was an animal. She was covered in motor oil.  Her ill self ended up in a pound.  She had to stay the required 7 days so her past owner could find her...what a joke!  On the 8th day, CARE took her out and straight to the vet.  She died within 18 hours, after seeing 2 vets for a total of 3 visits and undergoing numerous tests.  She was put to sleep mercifully by the last vet so her suffering would be over.  Her heart was bad, clots had gone to her brain; but, she was loved for her last 18 hoursSuch a pity she was NOT loved enough during her hard lifetime.

Donation from her mom for Nell's last 18 hours, AN ANONYMOUS CARE VOLUNTEER.
